Tehran-Mashhad Electrified Railway Construction to Begin
MRUD News—the managing director of I.R. Iran Railways has announced that the construction of Tehran-Mashhad electric railroad is to begin shortly and China’s Exim Bank has opened LCs for this project.
MRUD News has cited I.R. Iran Railways’ Public Relations quoting Saeed Mohammadzadeh as saying, “all required measures on the part of Iran are carried out and in the near future, a consortium of Iranian contractors and a Chinese company will begin construction works in this railroad.”
China’s Exim Bank is going to provide $1.7 billion to finance this project.
Iran’s Minister of roads and urban development had announced that electrifying the Tehran-Mashhad railroad will require an investment of $2 billion.
Tehran-Mashhad railroad is 925 kilometers long and it takes 12 hours to travel the distance which would be reduced to around 6 hours with the electrification of the route.
