 Iran's Experiences Presented in UN HABITAT Session in Nairobi

MRUD NEWS—The Deputy Minister in Housing and Construction, Mahmoud Mahmoudzadeh, presented Islamic republic of Iran's initiatives in different fields of urban, housing, retrofitting, and provision of affordable housing in the first meeting of the executive board of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) in Nairobi.

At the sideline of this session, Mahmoudzadeh met with the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, Maimunah Mohd Sharif.

Mahmoudzadeh announced Iran's supports from strategic plan of HABITAT for 2020 to 2030 and explained Iran's initiatives in different fields of urban, housing, retrofitting, and provision of affordable housing.

Iran Deputy Minister, as Iran representative in Kenya, expressed Iran's readiness to share experiences of Iran in construction and supply of housing for middle and low-income groups as well as retrofitting and reconstruction of housing especially rural housings through close cooperation with HABITAT.  

In this meeting, the Secretary-General of the United Nations emphasized on using global experiences especially experiences of Iran in facing the impacts of natural disasters like earthquake and appreciated Iran's support from UN HABITAT.

Noteworthy that Islamic Republic of Iran is hosting the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR). This office is within the frameworks of HABITAT's programs and fields of work in cooperation with governmental and non-governmental organizations to implement joint plans and projects in urban planning, retrofitting of hospitals, etc.
