Iran, Qatar to Employ Transport Corridors

Iran, Qatar to Employ Transport Corridors

MRUD News – Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development met with his Qatari counterpart to discuss the importance of transport corridors between the two countries.

In this meeting, Qatar’s Minister of Transport and Communications, Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti, emphasized cooperation between the two countries, especially in maritime transport and ports. He pointed to the importance of existing corridors between Iran and Qatar and their optimal utilization in order to promote trade and transit. To attain this, Al Sulaiti suggested activating transit lines as well as Hamad Port in the Persian Gulf due to its geo-strategic location.

Connecting sea ports in Iran and Qatar can facilitate cargo transit both by reducing transit times and tariffs.

Qatar expects to transit cargo destined for Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan via Iran.

Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Abbas Akhoundi, emphasized multi-modal transport (specifically connecting ports to railways) as an important factor in transport corridors.

Other areas of discussion between the two Ministers included increasing flight destinations between the two countries as well as investment.
