MRUD NEWS—The first batch of Russian vaccine for covid-19 is transferred to Iran on 4 January 2021 by Mahan Airline which has needed capacities and standards for carrying the freight.

This is the first foreign covid-19 vaccine that arrives in Iran.

The shipment consists of 500,000 doses of Russian-made Sputnik V vaccines which arrived at Tehran’s Imam Khomeieni International Airport from Moscow.

According to Tehran’s ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, Iran has ordered 5 million doses from Russia. The next batches are to arrive on Feb. 18 and Feb. 28, said Jalali.

Last month, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei banned Iran from importing the American Pfizer-BioNTech and Britain’s Astrazeneca vaccines.
