Speaking in a Radio program on 21 January 2021, Eslmai talked about some agreements in the railway sector based on trilateral negotiations between Iran, Iraq, and Syria at ministerial and deputy-ministerial levels.
The immediate result would be the railway link between Iran and Iraq via Shalamcheh-Basrah railway route with the length of 35 km. This is seriously followed up by Iran President but had been stopped mainly due to political reasons. However, in the last follow-up, the project was finally negotiated by Iran Minster of Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Javad Zarif. Subsequent to this, after negotiation took place in the last week, the region in Shalamcheh was visited by Iraqi delegation and it was decided to make some changes in the border arrangements and facilities. Once finished and approved by Iraqi delegation, the land will be delivered to the contractor. Currently the contract is concluded with the contractor and it is waiting for the land.
Considering approval of transit law in Iraq's Parliament, in the negotiations during Joint Commission Iran has proposed to have a balanced and equal trade in order to use resultant advantages and maintain the interests of both countries. This is welcomed by Iraqi side and Iran Minister expressed hope that it would resolve the problem.
Eslami also informed of continuous negotiations for participation of Iranian companies in the reconstruction projects in Iraq and Syria and added that the main problem ahead is financing of these projects, banking relations and guarantees that is expected to be resolved by Central Bank's agreements.
