This meeting, chaired by Hamed Taghizadeh, was attended by representatives from MRUD, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization, I.R.I Customs Administration, Iran Road Maintenance & Transportation Organization, RAI, and PMO.
Taghizadeh pointed to holding an INSTC Ministerial Meeting in September simultaneous with the seventh meeting of the Coordination Council. These remarks were followed by INSTC Manager at MRUD, who emphasized the importance of such meetings for promoting economic and political ties between neighboring member states.
According to INSTC’s Manager, some actions such as facilitating visa applications, single-window system, developing tourism, increasing cooperation in rail and road transport, as well as establishing a business forum are required for activating the North-South Corridor.
Six taskforces are to be established to follow up on the following issues:
1) Trade and customs,
2) Improving processes,
3) Incentives for logistics’ investment,
4) Corridor’s secretary,
5) Media and diplomacy,
6) Official procedures.
It was proposed that each organization introduce their representatives to each taskforce.
INSTC would greatly reduce distance in cargo transport, and once processes are improved, costs are expected to be reduced as well.
