MRUD NEWS—According to the Head of Iran Air Company, Captain Alireza Barkhor, the first widebody Boeing 747 SP registered as EP-IAA known as alpha alpha which was ordered and purchased by Iran Air in 1975 will be moved to Tehran Aviation Fair in order to protect and preserve Iran's aviation heritage.
With this plane, Iran Air could launch direct and nonstop flight from Tehran to New York in 1975 which had been the longest nonstop air route at that time.
The first Boeing SP747 had been removed from Iran Air fleet in 2004 and transferred to the Aviation Fair. Upon the need, the plane returned to Iran Air's fleet in 2007 after overhaul. Finally the last flight of this plane was to India in 11 June 2014 and thence had been placed at the Mehrabad Airport.
The plane was titled as 'Fars' from 1980 to 1985, and as 'Kurdistan' from 1985 to 2004. Finally it was called as "Persian Gulf" from 2008 to the end of his life.
