Zahedan-Chabahar railway route is 628 km long and 7 meter wide and according to schedule railway tracking 0f 150 km in this route will be completed in this year.
The project is the continuation of Zahedan-Zabol-Birjand-Mashhad.
The rail route will pass Chabahar Port, New City of Tis, part of Konarak, Nikshahr, Iranshahr, Khash, Zahedan Cities.
Transfer of 927000 passengers and 2800000 tons freights are estimated short-term goals of this project for next two years.
The speed of the train will be 160 km/h for passenger and 120 km/h for freight trains. There will be 34 stations along the route.
The project will create employment for 13000 persons of which 3000 will be direct employment.
Chabahar-Zahedan railway plan will form east railway corridor, connect Chabahar as the only ocean Port of Iran to the country's rail network, help development of Makran Coasts by rail transport, connect the Central Asian countries and Afghanistan to free waters, create suitable platform for economic development and growth, save fuel consumption and decrease road accidents, create sustainable development and security in the region, and will establish permanent cooperation with the regional and other countries with commercial and transit transactions.
Makran Coasts and Chabahar Port have strategic importance for Iran economically, culturally, and militarily. The importance of Oman Coastlines and Chabahar Port for commercial and freight transactions is increasingly highlighted as it provides infrastructures and economic activities for more employment and poverty reduction in the region.
