MoU to Construct Basra-Shalamcheh Railway Signed

MRUD News—Iran and Iraq signed 5 MoU among their high-ranking officials during the visit of Iran President, Hassan Rouhani, to Iraq.
The MoUs were signed for i) construction of the Basra-Shalamcheh railway, ii) facilitating the visa issuance for investors and businessmen, iii) cooperation in health sector, iv) MoU between Iran and Iraq Ministries of Petroleum, and v) MoU between Iran Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Commerce and Iraq's Ministry Commerce.
Hassan Rouhani in the meeting with Iran and Iraq high-ranking delegations in 11 March 2019 appreciated the warm welcome on the part of Iraq Government and mentioned Iran and Iraq historical roots and their friendly relationships over years which will be continued.
Iran President called the cooperation between the two countries in transport and transit very important for expanding economic and commercial transactions. In this sense, connecting Iraq's railway network to Iran's railway within the North-South Transport Corridor (NSTC) toward central Asia and south-east countries will have a huge effect on commercial relationships of the region.
